At the Nithya Deepa Dharmachalai of Deepam Trust, Velachery, Chennai, on the first Friday of every month for the past ten years, rice and medical aid have been given to families of persons with disabilities and of the visually impaired.
Today, 01.04.22, on the Friday occasion, 65 families of the visually impaired received rice and groceries at the Dharmachalai with prayer. Each family was given 10 kg of good-quality rice, dal and oil. Everyone was served a full meal at the Dharmachalai.
Our thanks to Deepam's permanent benefactors who give generously to the families of persons with disabilities. Depending on the donations of Deepam's donors, we plan to give rice every month to 35 more families of the visually impaired and persons with disabilities.
Knowing the hunger of the hungry poor who have no means of support, and relieving the disease of their hunger, is Dharma. “The Jeevakarunya service of Vallalar's Upakara Salai”, the place where food is given without discrimination, where nourishment is provided and hunger relieved, for the poor, the elderly, persons with disabilities, the mentally ill and others who cannot relieve their own hunger when it strikes, is the Dharmachalai.
Poverty is cruel! Poverty in youth is crueller still!! In this Kali Yuga, the disease of hunger is the cruellest of all.
Realising that hunger is cruel, we offer our salutations, salutations, salutations for the continuing monthly compassion fund that you give generously to Deepam Trust, out of your own honest earnings, for the Dharmachalai services that relieve the hunger of 2000 people every day through various village Dharmachalais in Tamil Nadu!
